Kīpuka Exploring
Day Trips with 4th graders

As of September 2016, the Teaching Change Program began offering day trips. For these trips, we work to bring 4th and 5th-grade students to a local Kipuka.

A Kīpuka is a forest isolated by lava that is usually much older than the surrounding area.  The site we visit holds a rich diversity of native plants and birds and is the focus of the trip.

Location: Kaumana Trail (mile marker 20 off of Saddle Road)
Time Frame: 3-4 hours
